The standout feature is the Shimano Nexus 8 internal rear hub. “Sealed for life” unit together with the carbon belt drive means that the drivetrain is almost maintenance free. The belt drive is the same that is used in a car’s timing belt – it doesn’t require lube and will easily outlast a typical chain with a life expectancy of over 10 years.

The hub also has additional advantages including an impressive 302% gear range which is about the same range as a typical mountain bike, which is a tremendous help for hillier roads. With the gears being internal, you will also avoid having broken or damaged derailleurs stopping your ride prematurely. The sophisticated unit also allows you to change gears without pedalling – very useful if you have forgotten to down shift whilst coming to a set of lights.

Path i8 also now comes fully equipped with premium spec Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes complimented with an Entity expert cockpit – they have been carefully chosen to match the high level components featured on the bike.

Polygon have also made refinements to the bottom bracket on the i8, this is an eccentric bottom bracket that is used to install and tension the belt. This has been totally redesigned so that it will not slip or move unload load.
